Computers & Equipment at the Library
| Public Access Computers |
The library has several computers available for public use. They are accessible on a first-come, first-served basis. Please remember to bring your library card or identification with you when visiting the library and a if you need to save your work.• Desktop computer sessions are limited to one hour at a time. • Computers in the Children's Room are intended for the use of children in Kindergarten through Grade 6. • Desktop and laptop computers in the Young Adult Room may be used by patrons in Grade 6 through Grade 12. • Reference Department computers are available to users in Grade 6 and those older. • Wireless laptop computers are available at the Reference Desk for use inside the library by EM School District residents 18 and older. Software Available: Internet Explorer web browser; Microsoft Word 2010; Microsoft Excel 2010; Microsoft PowerPoint 2010; Microsoft Publisher 2010; Microsoft Access 2010; WinWay Resume Deluxe. |
| Printers |
| All public internet computers are connected to a networked monochrome laser printer. Color printing is also available at the Reference Desk and in the Young Adult and Children's Rooms. All public computer users may print up to five black and white pages per day at no cost. Additional black and white printing is charged for at ten cents per page. Color charge is twenty-five cents per page (no free color pages). |
| Copiers |
| There are copiers located near the Circulation and Reference Desks. The cost for a black & white copy is 15 cents. Color copying is available on the same machine at a cost of 45 cents per page. All copiers accept coins, $1 bills, and bulk copy cards (which are sold at the Circulation Desk). |
| Learning Computers and iPads |
| Two desktop computers and five iPads pre-loaded with educational software applications are available for use inside the Children's Room by children and their parents. iPads must remain inside the Children's Room and are restricted to EM School District residents with proper identification. |
| CCTV Magnifier |
| A video magnifier is available at the Reference Desk to aid low vision users. |
| Typewriter |
| An electric typewriter is available for public use at the Reference Desk. |
| Fax Services |
| The copier located adjacent to the Reference Desk can be used to transmit a document via fax to a domestic number. Cost is $1.35 per page. |
| Scanner |
| The copier located near the Reference Desk can be used to scan documents or photos to a compatible USB flash drive. The fee is $0.15 per page. Alternatively, a flatbed scanner is available to computer users in the Reference Desk area. It is capable of scanning photos and documents to an image file format. Conversion of scanned documents to PDF is only supported on the public copier in the Reference Department ($0.15 per page). Converting a scanned document to editable text (also known as Optical Character Recognition or OCR) is not currently supported by library equipment. |
| Microfilm & Microfiche Reader/Printer |
| Two film readers are available in the Reference Department. They accept 16mm and 35mm film as well as fiche. Printing from microfilm/microfiche is available at a cost of ten cents per page. |
