Special Programs – Summer 2017

Parents or Caregivers are required to remain in the library
while children are in programs.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Patrons can register another patron if they have that patron’s library card. Caregivers with EMPL Library cards can register an out-of-district child that they care for with their library card and the child’s proof of age. If you are wait-listed for a program, you will be contacted if space becomes available.

All registrations are limited to one class per day and one on-going program. All registrations begin at 9:00 a.m. unless otherwise noted. Programs are limited to 25 children unless otherwise noted. Programs may be cancelled due to inadequate registration. Non-residents may inquire about availability one week prior to the program. If you have any questions about program guidelines such as age, grade or caregiver, call us first before arriving for a program. Our librarians are pleased to help you make your child’s library experiences positive and happy!

**PLEASE NOTE** Library cards can now be issued to children of all ages. Children must have an East Meadow Library card to register for programs. Most programs require prior registration. AFTER the first day of registration, patrons may sign up over the phone by calling (516) 794-2570 ext. 6.


Early Childhood

BIRTH – NOT YET IN K  -HANDS ON MUSIC SING ALONG: FRIDAY, JUNE 2 @ 10:00 AM
Sing and clap your hands with Dara Linthwaite. Registration begins Friday, May  19. With caregiver.

6-18 MONTHS-PLAY HOORAY BABY & ME: FRIDAY, JUNE 9 & 16 @ 10:00 AM

Nursery rhymes, fingerplays, music and more! Registration for both classes begins Friday, May 26. Birthdate must be from 12/15 to 12/16. With caregiver. No siblings. Limited to 20 children.

18-36 MONTHS  -PLAY HOORAY TODDLER & ME: FRIDAY, JUNE 9 & 16 @ 10:45 AM
Clap your hands, stomp your feet and wiggle to the beat!  Registration for both classes begins Friday, May 26.  Birthdate must be from 6/14 to 12/15. With caregiver. No siblings. 

3 1/2 YEARS – ENTERING GRADE 6-SUMMER READING PROGRAM REGISTRATION: MONDAY, JUNE 12 

BUILD A BETTER WORLD!
Summer Reading Program for ages 3 1/2 years – entering grade 1 or children entering grades 2-6. Register and receive your ticket for Jester Jim on Wednesday, June 21 at 4:15 p.m. for younger group and 7:00 p.m. for older group. Tickets are extremely limited. First come, first served.

2 YEARS – NOT YET IN K -CRAFT TIME FUN: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 21 @ 11:15 AM
Miss Jeanne is here for hands on learning activities, stories, a Green Monster Puppet craft and lots of fun. Registration begins Tuesday, June 6.  Birthdate must be on or before 6/15. With caregiver. No siblings. 

BIRTH – NOT YET IN K -FAMILY FUN WITH PLAY HOORAY: WEDNESDAY, JULY 5 @ 11:15 AM
Enjoy family fun time together singing, dancing and playing.  Registration begins Thursday, June 22. With caregiver.

BIRTH – NOT YET IN K-JUMP FOR JOY: WEDNESDAY, JULY 12 @ 11:15 AM
Dance, sing and play. Costumes! Puppets! Musical instruments! Have fun , jump for joy.  Registration begins Tuesday, June 27.  With caregiver.

2 YEARS – NOT YET IN K -TOTS AT NIGHT: WEDNESDAY, JULY 12 @ 7:00 PM
It’s time for Blast Off Rocket Ship craft. Registration begins Wednesday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m.  Birthdate must be on or before 7/15. With caregiver. No siblings. 

4 YEARS – GRADE 1 -SHIRLEY RUBY’S MOMMY AND ME: WEDNESDAY, JULY 26 @ 11:15 AM
Create a mosaic frame to show a family picture. Registration begins Tuesday, July 11.  Birthdate must be on or before 7/13. There is a $2.00 material fee. With caregiver. No siblings. 

3 1/2 – 6 YEARS – PAJAMA TIME: MONDAY, JULY 31 @ 7:00 PM
Come to the library in your pj’s and listen to bedtime stories with Dara Linthwaite. Don’t forget to bring your favorite stuffed toy.  Registration begins Monday, July 10 at 7:00 p.m.  Birthdate must be from 7/11 to 1/14.

2 YEARS – NOT YET IN K – A TIME FOR KIDS: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2 @ 11:15 AM
Stories, songs, dancing and 1, 2, 3 Blast Off Rocket craft. Registration begins Tuesday, July 18.  Birthdate must be on or before 8/15. With caregiver. No siblings.

18-36 MONTHS – HANDS ON MUSIC: FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 @ 10:00 AM

GRADES 4-6-BOOK PICNIC: MONDAY, JULY  10 @ 12:30 PM
Build a Better World. Read a picture book biography about someone who made the world a better place. Bring lunch and a drink. We will provide cookies and a fun time. Pick out a copy of your book when you register. Registration begins Monday, June 26.

Prevent the summer slide! Maintain your reading skills this summer by reading aloud to one of our high school reading buddies! Registration begins Monday, July 3.

Explore the world of arcade machine and video games in the fun STEAM program encouraging children’s connected learning and creative thinking. Registration begins Wednesday, July 5 at 7:00 p.m.

GRADES 2-6-BALANCING ACT! A PROGRAM PRESENTED BY THE LONG ISLAND CHILDREN’S MUSEUM: WEDNESDAY, JULY  26 @ 7:00 PM
What makes things go f-f-fast or slooow? Learn about the cool science of gravity, speed and motion as we experiment with pennies and peacock feathers in a fun way! Registration begins Wednesday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m.

Explore the scientific principles and physical forces behind structures such as bridges, towers, and geodesic domes. Registration begins Tuesday, July 25 at 7:00 p.m. 

GRADES 4-6-TOUCHSTONES: THURSDAY, AUGUST 10 @ 7:00 PM
A TouchStone is a tiny piece of artwork to mark an act of kindness. TouchStones are designed to be passed from hand to hand and heart to heart. Join us to create these special gifts. Registration begins Thursday, July 27 at 7:00 p.m.

GRADES 1-3-BOOK PICNIC: MONDAY, AUGUST 14 @ 12:30 PM
Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney. Miss Rumphius decided that when she grew up, she would go to faraway places, live by the sea and do something to make the world more beautiful. She does all those things, the last being the most difficult of all.  Bring lunch and a drink. We will provide cookies and a fun time planting seeds in pots that you decorate and take home. Pick up a copy of the book when you register. Registration begins Monday, July 31.

3-5 YEARS-INSTRUMENT PETTING ZOO: FRIDAY, JUNE 23 @ 4:00 PM
A great way to introduce your children to musical instruments. Straight from SUNY Stonybrook’s Staller Center, musicians will perform for us and allow your children to touch and use instruments. A wonderful experience for all. We ask parents or caregivers to accompany their children.  Space is very limited. Registration begins Friday, June 2. ALL AGES -CAPTAIN UNDERPANTS PARTY: FRIDAY, JULY 7 FROM 1:00-4:00 PM
Celebrate his new movie with this special event! We will be creating flip-o-rama books, battling the Turbo Toilet and decorating underpants of your very own. Tra la la! No registration required.

3 1/2 YEARS – GRADE 6 -GREEN MEADOW FARMS: WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 2 @ 7:00 PM
